How to choose a portable cell phone charger

Which portable charger should I carry every day?
If your iPhone has MagSafe, a magnetic pack is the easiest to live with: it snaps to the back of the phone and charges with no cable. The 5000mAh slim pack suits a commute or a night out, and the 10000mAh 3-in-1 suits a long day or a trip, with a watch and earbuds topped up from the same pack. For any other phone, a cable power bank such as the 12000mAh or 20000mAh model charges two devices at once.
How to choose a MagSafe power bankDo the MagSafe power banks work with Android phones?
The magnets need a MagSafe iPhone, or a phone in a magnetic case or with a magnetic ring, and wireless charging only works on a phone that supports Qi wireless charging. Any phone with a USB-C port can still charge from the PD20W USB-C port with a cable.
How many phone charges will I get from a power bank?
It depends on the size of your phone battery, and some energy is lost along the way, so the number on the pack is more than your phone receives. As a rough guide, a 5000mAh pack adds about half to one full charge to a typical phone, and a 10000mAh pack about one and a half to two.
Can I take these power banks on a plane?
Yes, in your carry-on only, never in checked bags. Packs under 100Wh fly without airline approval, which covers the 5000, 10000, 10400, 12000 and 20000mAh models here (a 20000mAh pack is about 74Wh). A 30000mAh pack is about 111Wh, so you need your airline's approval before you fly with it.
